9 simple and delicious healthy bonfire treats

As the nights draw in and we start to experience the first signs of autumn, bonfire night looms before us and all we can imagine is hot chocolates and warm marshmallows.

Getting the sparklers out and watching fireworks with the kids is undoubtedly a family affair and so it wouldn’t be right to have a bonfire night without some delicious snacks.

We’ve collated a list of delicious and healthy bonfire treats, which you could make at home with your children and enjoy in front of a magical firework display.

chocolate sauce and fruits

1. Autumnal fruit skewers with a dark chocolate dipping sauce

Super easy and also super colourful, and so brilliant for you to get your kids involved and excited about the array of colours.

I would go for fruits with bright colours, like strawberries, peaches, oranges, mango and pineapple, and get everyone together to carefully chop them into pieces. Whilst they are arranging their skewers, melt some 60% or more dark chocolate and add a pinch of cinnamon for an autumnal twist.

Enjoy dipping the fruit into the sauce!

2. Baked apples with cinnamon

A warming twist on a toffee apple – delicious soft baked apple with sugar and cinnamon. Grab yourself an apple and remove the core, keeping the apple whole.

In a bowl, mix together cinnamon, sugar and a pinch of honey. Cover the apple with the mixture and fill the core.

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.

3. Pear slices with toffee dip

Mixing up the fruit options here and going for a delicious pear, to slice up and tip it into a delectable autumnal dip!

One of the easiest ways to create a easy toffee dip is to find a pack of ready made toffee bits and then mix together with cream cheese, sugar and cinnamon. That easy!

4. Carrot cake energy balls

Everyone loves a carrot cake and this is brilliant as it combines into one bite of energy goodness.

You’ll need shredded carrots, walnuts, pitted dates, cinnamon, ginger, a splash of maple syrup and a small amount of rolled oats.

Blend together and form into balls, before letting to set in the fridge.

5. Indulgent dark chocolate mint truffles

Who doesn’t love a truffle of an evening?

And these are truly delicious. The trick is switching the normal double cream, with coconut cream.

Pop the coconut cream on a low heat and add squares of dark chocolate, to melt together. Add some mint extract and mix slowly.

Take off the heat and pop in fridge. When it has started to cool, mould into balls and roll in cocoa powder.

6. Maple crunchy granola with white chocolate

Oven baked granola makes a kitchen smell absolutely heavenly, and it really is so simple.

Take oats, pecans, walnuts, pistachios and any other nuts you have lying around the house and cover them with maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla extract.

Bake in the oven, whilst you melt some white chocolate on the side. Serve! Simply delicious.

Absolute crowd pleaser – all you need to do is arrange your marshmallows (the jumbo sized ones) in a pan, and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

A sprinkling of cinnamon gives an autumnal kick and then pop in the oven for 5-6 minutes, but make sure you watch closely!

8. Sweet potato jackets with guacamole and salsa

You may after something savoury and these melting jacket potatoes are the perfect warmer.

Prick with a fork and then in the oven they go, whilst you make guacamole with avocado, limes, olive oil, chilli, coriander and a fresh salsa with chunky tomatoes and sweet corn.

Serve on top of the sweet potato with a big dollop of both!
